Gavin Lawlor
Gavin Lawlor is a local Business man who works for the Irish fairy door company with his team, Niamh, Aoife and Oísín They produce hand crafted fairy doors in Ireland for children. They can be used in all locations whether it’s in your home, in your garden or on a bookshelf. Gavin expained that their product is not infact their doors, their product is magic and it’s all about believing.
One of the main reasons Gavin was picked as one of our local heroes is because of the companies ethos. They are heavily involved in charity and local employment. They also enjoy random acts of kindness within the community. For example, every month they do a “trolley treat” where they go to a supermarket and randomly select a family with a full trolley and pay for their shopping. He is a big believer in shared wealth.
The company have also fairy trails set up everywhere such as Corcagh park and Tymon Park which are becoming a haven for children across Dublin. The company create magical imaginary backstories for the children in the most creative details to help create a deep seeded belief in children in the possiblities of magic. For example fairies sit on your shoulder and watch you while you sleep, they watch your dreams like a movie and take away the bad ones.
Gavin also said that the charity allocation every month of the doors is huge for them. They give to crumlin hospital, barretstown and the make a wish foundation.
Gavin was an inspiration to talk to and really put across to us why he deserved to be nominated. Although he was extremely modest we think that himself and his team are certainly deserving of their place among Clondalkin's local heroes.
