Phil and Gemma Carr
On the 20th of January 2012 Ciarán Carr tragically passed away from sudden adult death syndrome. Since his passing his family have done numerous amounts of work for the community and to help raise the awareness of sudden adult death syndrome.
On the 4th of April 2013 the family launched the ‘Ciarán Carr foundation’ in Croke Park along with Jim Gavin. A few months after Ciarán passed away the family decided to go ahead and have his 21st birthday party as they had planned. They raised €24,000 at this party which they generously donated to “cry” in Tallaght Hospital. They then went on to run a charity walk along with ‘The Laurels Crew’ where they raised a lot of money. With this money Phil and Gemma Carr decided that they would provide defibrillators to all the schools and sports clubs in the Clondalkin area. These defibrillators cost €1,200 and are now in 29 schools in the Clondalkin area. The ‘Ciarán Carr Foundation’ continues to do great work in the community and was also named G.A.A Charity of the year for 2014.
