Kenneth Egan

At first Kenny Egan felt embarrassed about even being nominated as a hero in the community. He said it was an honour to even be considered as a local hero and he was delighted to be able to represent the community as a hero.

Kenny told us of how his career began at the age of eight when his brother brought him to his first boxing class in Neilstown boxing club. After losing one of his fights he became disheartened but didn’t lose the will to keep on going. From his dedication Kenny went on to box all across the world, competing in over 45 countries.

In 2004 he thought about retiring but again stuck with his heart and in 2008 he told us of his amazing experience competing in the Olympics in Beijing with over 10,000 fellow athletes, where he won a silver medal in boxing.

Kenny told us of his pride in his home of Clondalkin and how he wants to help the youth and mental wellbeing of young people in the area. He told us how he himself struggled with problems such as alcoholism and doesn’t want it to happen to young people in the community like him.

Kenny said he is running for Fine Gael as he wants to be a voice for the youth in Clondalkin and the community.
