Clondalkin Tidy Towns Committee
These questions were answered by committee member Mary Dardis on behalf of the Tidy Towns Committee.
-
How did you all feel being nominated as local heroes?
Unbelievable, we just do the work don’t expect any credit. We are proud to be living in Clondalkin and want to make it the best town in Ireland. (litter free)
-
Who would you have thought to be a local Clondalkin hero?
Eddie Lane, Claire Sherry, Ms Galvin, GAA Club, Mary Kennedy, Kenneth Egan, The Fairy Door Company.
-
How did you feel at the photo-shoot?
We had great fun, laughed a lot- ask Ms Comiskey or Mr Barry.
-
What are some examples specifically of what work you all do around the area?
We cleaned up the old graveyard at Monastery Road, it dates back to the early 1800's. Litter picking is an ongoing problem, grass cutting, weeding, biodiversity, improving the local schools, green flag committee’s etc. Flower planting to add colour to the town, removal of graffiti, meetings with local county councillors and South Dublin county council.
-
Do you feel like you are local heroes?
No that would not be a great attitude to have, there is too much work to be done, at the same time it is nice to be appreciated.
-
Are you glad you were nominated?
We are all very pleased to have been chosen. The more publicity we get it might encourage more people to help join us.
-
Were you all happy after having your pictures taken, and were you happy with the finished picture that was chosen?
Yes of course we were and a very sincere thanks to the 5th and 6th year students and teachers for the “Face Forward” project.
