**********************Exhibition of the Banners (at long last)*******************

November 14th  RuaRed, the Square Tallagh, Dublin 24

Opening night for the art centre's winter exhibitions starting at 6pm until 8pm

The initial exhibition organised for the Face Forward project was designed alongside South Dublin County Council's roads and services division for display along the busy Newlands Cross hoarding. However the evening before the opening night in May 2014 after all the banners had been hung successfully along the roadside we were instructed to take them down by the building company who manage the site. After much communciation with the county council and many disappointments our exhibition was changed from the Newlands Cross interchange, to the outside of the civic offices in Clondalkin village and eventually the county council had to drop their involvement. The Face Forward team have been in contact with coucillors, galleries and anyone who could help every week since may and so it is with great relief and great gratitude that we thank the RUARED art centre for taking our wonderful local heroes exhibiton beyond the boarders of Clondalkin and into the South Dublin Arts Centre Platform. We are very excited to see our heroes get their moment in the sun and we apologise for the delay.

Campaing in the Mill, Clondalkin

By now we have distributed Face Forward posters, letters and nomination forms to over 50 different organisations, businesses and clubs across Clondalkin. Check out our contributions page under behind the scenes to see where you might find some. The team still agreed we need another push to get these nomination forms back into us. We visited the Mill on Thursday the 20th March to catch the evening shoppers. The girls and staff had a great time chatting with hundreds of locals with over 80 nominations handed in. We had stickers for all the kids passing by and any handed in nomination forms earned a delicious face foward cup cake. These superb cupcakes were made by one of our entrepreneuial  sixth years who is not only studying hard for her exams, volunteering her time in the FaceForward project but also donating her time and money to creating the most delicious and cute Face Forward cupcakes. What a treat. Click the images to link to her business Koala Cupcakes.

Artist led workshop

Photographer Eoin Comiskey came to work with the team on Friday the 28th of February.

He led a workshop in portraiture teaching the team about lighting, composition and getting the best quality image from your model and your camera.

Students and staff posed for portraits that explored a range of techniques to portray the models personality, to play with lighting and set up options and mostly to prepare the team for shooting our local heros.

1st Student  led workshop

After our photographer workshop the girls accepted a generous offer from Peter Redmond, a Clondalkin business man who creates all kinds of robotics with his company Mechatron.com. Peter came will his dalek willing to be put to the test of our students photographic aspirations.

Working without any specialist equipment the girls had to focus carefully on natural lighting and composition to frame these exciting portraits of Peter and his 6ft, walking, talking machine.

This was no easy task but the girls have made a great effort. The team learnt a lot in the shoot and while we think they could go it alone, they agree they really look forward to having their professional photographer by their side.
